Environmental Health

What we Do

The Environmental Health Division is responsible for protecting the public health and safety of residents and visitors in the City of Marlborough by addressing environmental factors that may affect the community. Our primary functions include:

Monitoring & Regulation

This division enforces local and state laws and regulations that protect public health from environmental hazards such as pollution, water quality, and food safety.

Environmental Inspections

Assistant Sanitarians conduct routine inspections per state law on the following: food establishments, tobacco retailers, public/semi-public swimming pools, tanning facilities. Sanitarians also respond to complaints related to the following: housing, food establishments, and general health nuisances.

Permitting & Licensing

This division aids in the issuance of permits and licenses for various activities or facilities that impact public health which include the following: noise variances, private septic system abandonments, alcohol licensing, and food establishment permits.
